Beautiful Blending!
Want to know how to get a gorgeous blended look on your next painted furniture makeover? Then you’re in luck! Member of the Shabby Nook Family and Dixie Belle Ambassador Connie Clarke from FAFF Designs wrote a guest blog for Shabby Nook on exactly this!
Connie gives a step-by-step guide on how to achieve a subtle mottled look using Dixie Belle Chalk Paints, a Mister, and a Palm Wax and Paint Natural Bristle Brush (psst... this one is currently on sale at Shabby Nook!) Rough blending is a fun technique where you don’t need to be too precise or perfect. Read the full blog post here to see how Connie does it and her top blending tips!
Our Faves!
Cling On make amazing brushes. We love them because they offer superior application, no shedding, and give a smooth flawless finish. They work with all the paints we stock and are super easy to clean (just keep in water!) They come in oval, round, flat and stubby brushes meaning there is a perfect brush shape for any technique. You can even get brush keeper that makes keeping your brushes clean even easier!

In the Spotlight this week is Joanna Pierpoint Aikins with these fab drawers with a faux aged copper effect created with copper patina powders! Just look at the transformation in the before and after pics! Joanna prepped the drawers with Fusion Ultra Grip as they were a bit shiny and painted the whole unit in Autentico NocturnalShe mixed saltwash with Autentico Ancient Copper and stippled this onto the drawers with the drawers lying on their back to aid application. Whilst they were still wet Joanna sprinkled the drawers with Autentico Aged Copper Powders in Mid Green, Dark Blue and Light Blue and then stood the drawers back up to allow the excess to fall off. She lightly sprayed some areas with water to encourage a drip effect.
Once dry she used some more copper paint and splattered on some of the Nocturnal Paint using a toothbrush adding flecks of colour. Finally, she sanded any sharp edges and add a spray lacquer to protect it.
Thanks Joanna for sharing your photos and technique with us! All that hard work certainly paid off – they look gorgeous! For more paint inspo join our private Facebook Group today and see what our members are up to!
